Transforming Daphne: How Statuary Can Rewrite Greek Myth, by Grace DeAngelis 

In 2004, artist Dessa Kirk created a group of three statues depicting the Greek nymph Daphne as an “Art in the Garden” installation for Chicago’s Grant Park. Relocated along the strolling paths of Northerly Island’s dazzling oasis, Kirk’s soaring sculptures reshape the message of the ancient myth of Daphne to give empowerment and visibility to marginalized members of the Chicago community.
